About El Zonte

El Zonte is a small coastal village in La Libertad Department, approximately 42 kilometers from San Salvador. Long a favorite among serious surfers for its consistent Pacific swell and uncrowded lineups, El Zonte gained international attention starting around 2019 when an anonymous donation of Bitcoin sparked a grassroots circular economy in the community.

Today the town is home to surf schools, yoga retreats, coffee farms, volcano hikes, and a tight-knit community of locals, expats, and digital nomads. Las Olas Resort was founded to offer guests an authentic, immersive experience in this remarkable place — from the waves to the culture to the cutting edge of sound money.
